What is an Independent Insurance Agent?

There are many insurance agents directly linked to a single insurance company, able to sell that insurance company's products and services.  An "independent" insurance agent can enjoy the freedom to own his or her own agency, be contractually appointed with a variety of different, competing companies and even be able to pursue relationships with "brokers" to help write and place risks that are difficult to write or very specialized.

What are benefits of working with an Independent Insurance Agent?

When a consumer seeks insurance with an Independent Insurance Agent, the possibility exists that many more options are available providing competiive pricing, perhaps broader coverage and advice on who to properly and thoroughly protect propery and assets.  Independent Insurance Agents normally recieve commissions from the insurance company with whom he/she places the coverage.  This is not an "extra" cost to the insurance-buying consumer.
